ICCA Co-sponsors Third Annual Conference of Milan Chamber of Arbitration
On 16 November 2012, ICCA co-sponsored the Third Annual Conference organized by the Milan Chamber of Arbitration (CAM), "Italy as the seat of your arbitration – Get a tip to make it work". A panel of arbitration specialists, chaired by ICCA Governing Board member Piero Bernardini (Italy), examined the real and perceived suitability of Italy as an arbitration seat from the theoretical and the practical point of view. Interventions covered the role and importance of the seat of arbitration, the Italian legal framework and the practical aspects of arbitrating in Italy. ICCA members Massimo Benedettelli (Italy), Alexis Mourre (France) and Paolo Michele Patocchi (Switzerland) delivered well-received speeches. Judge Baldo Marescotti of the Milan Court of Appeal presented statistical data revealing the Italian courts’ restraint in interfering with arbitration and Giancarlo Triscari, a representative of the Italian Ministry of Justice, stressed the Italian legislator’s commitment to arbitration and mediation. Judge Bernard Corboz of the Swiss Supreme Court spoke on the interaction between Swiss courts and arbitration. Approximately 100 people attended. The next in the series of yearly conferences organized by the CAM will be held in Milan on 29 November 2013.
